Dragons & Chimpanzees
Jackson Capper |A poem about the battle of humans passions.
The dragon keeps over her den of lavish gold,
Precious stones, and beautiful virgins.
The serpent has no use for such artefacts,
Yet she butchers the men.
Are you the dragon, or are you the knight?
For both are unleashed at the earth’s edge,
The firmament that promises to quench.
The untamed depths of our mind,
is like a wild pig, drowning in rivers of lust.
Heroes take place like a rainbow, but all clouds disperse.
Our nakedness is shown and we are but a filthy dragon.
Behold, that valley of uncanny; the eery reflection,
When the chimp makes like a human action.
There is an epic in your veins.
Legions of desire clashing to win the limbs.
Yea, it is vanity when it’s a fine drink,
But it can be like a wrath on your neighbour,
Lest the armies of sympathy can fall upon it.
These are trenches of reluctance.
You reach in your pocket to give charity, then
Flashes of forgone purchase lure you into safety,
For the serpent is warm and smooth are her scales.
We look in the mirror searching for a brave knight, but
Until the war is over, we will only see a chimpanzee.
